Still Catching up

4th of July weekend in Cadillac was a ball!  I mentioned the Wetherell Family Extravaganza ………..and it was!   Chris’ Dad, Dave and Step mom Linda have a beautiful place on Pleasant Lake and it appeared to be open to all.  Elizabeth is a champion at reciting linage of the various cousins, spouses and coat tail connections.  Linda the hostess even admitted that there may have been people she didn’t know at the party.  Much food and fun was wrapped up with an hour long fireworks display over the lake.  It was obvious that this was highly anticipated as at night fall boats lined up in front of the house.  This great display was made more interesting when some rockets would fall over and shoot into the crowd or on the lake.  No harm no foul but much fun.  That Sunday Abby ran in a 5K in Lake City ( The Greatest 4th in the North) and came in 9th out 19 runners in her group.  Well done.  The parade followed.  The day wrapped up with quiet time at the Lake.

Jessie and Abby took us to the Carl T. Johnson hunting center.  This is a great free museum based on hunting, fishing and preservation of wildlife in Northern Michigan.  They have historical and current practices and items on display, hiking trails and free fishing poles for day use.  We saw an Au Sable Boat there.  This was important to us as our friend Mike is helping to restore one of these historical pieces.

It is located next to the state park in Cadillac.  Right where the “Platters used to be”.

We drove by Grandmas Lake Mitchell house.  It has been remodeled and all for the good.  It is now a two story but you can still see that the main floor and garage are original.       It looks terrific and I am sure the owners know how lucking they are to have it.  They had kids toys outside and beach towels around.  That made me very happy.

Sleeping Bear dunes can be described as torturous fun.  Jessie was loosing understanding why we had to climb this sand pile but she persevered.  Abby attacked the challenge.  But in the end we made it.  Had a great view and soaked up Michigan and ran down faster when we could.
Just down the road is Glen Haven a historical Timber then Cherry canning town with a boat and maritime museum.  Don’t waste your time on Glen Arbor as it is a town that exists on the naive down state traveler.  Cute, high prices and not enough help are great buzz words for this towns brochure.
